Biography

George Checkley Stanley was born in 1812, probably July, in England. He is the son of Edward Stanley and Miss Checkley. George's great grandfather went from England to Gilbraltar around 1750 as a blacksmith for the army. George's father, Edward, was born there, but spent his adult life in England.

George married his wife MaryAnn Summers in 1853 at St. John Baptists Church, Leytonstone, Essex, England. They moved to Norton, Kings, New Brunswick, Canada before 1861. Between 1861 and 1871 the family moved from Norton to Springfield. George spent the rest of his time in Springfield and is buried at Springfield Anglican Church Cemetery with his wife.

The original info from the GEDCOM (Maidlow Family Tree.ged on 12 April 2011) provided the birth abt 1813 in England and died in 1899 in Springfield with middle name Cheekly. This info matches the info at Find A Grave. However a recent message received 11/11/2019 from a direct descendant of George (2ggdaughter) has provided more details, specifically the exact death date and a corrected birth date, as well as the correct spelling of his middle name. His middle name is actually Checkley, which was his mother's maiden name. The rest of the info provided by the descendant is now part of this record.

Original GEDCOM Import (Maidlow Family Tree.ged on 12 April 2011) had a mixture of this marriage record's details combined with the one listed above.
