Thomas Stansbury, Jr. was born April 24, 1714, in St Paul's Parish, Baltimore county, Maryland, a son of Thomas Stansbury and Jane Dixon Hayes. [1] On November 4, 1743, Thomas patented a tract of land called "Stansbury's Good Luck." Thomas' father wrote his Will on February 21, 1748 and it was probated June 4, 1766. Thomas was remembered in his father's Will and inherited a tract of land called "Gostwick's Choice." On March 2, 1734/35 in St Paul's Parish, Thomas married Hannah Gorsuch, a daughter of Charles and Sarah Cole Gorsuch and descendant of Anne Lovelace Gorsuch Lovelace-8 a "gateway ancestor," connecting this family a long line back to royalty. [2]

On May 27, 1776 Thomas Stansbury, Jr. appeared before the Committee. He had been reported as using some expressions favorable to the Ministerial party (the English). The Committee declared that he had cleared himself and also thanked him for the zeal and diligence he had displayed in the cause of his country ever since the present unfortunate troubles began. [3]

Thomas did not serve in the military, during the American Revolutionary War, but he died take the Oath of Allegiance, in 1778. Thomas is honored for his Patriotic Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as DAR Ancestor #A108636 [4]

Thomas died June 15, 1798, at the age of 84 years, in Baltimore County, Maryland and is buried in the Long Crandon Cemetery, Stella Maris 2300 Dulaney Valley Road, Timonium, Baltimore County, Maryland. There is a photograph of his headstone on his Find A Grave memorial. [5]

Will proved June 30, 1798, recorded Baltimore [6] names children as:

He left to his daughters, Hannah Sater and Rachel Lemon each a part of the tract called "Stoney Hills" but left none to Jane, as she was then rich and it was not necessary to provide for her. [7]

Research Notes

There is a Thomas Stansbury, Jr and a Thomas Stansbury, Jr. son of Thomas, Jr. listed in the St. Thomas Parish Registers, p. 67 under the BACK RIVER UPPER HUNDRED. Could it be this one? Needs checking. MDE 10/21/98.
