Elijah Stansbury was born in Baltimore County about 1756. He was the son of William Stansbury and Elizabeth Ensor. [1]The family moved to Harford County in the early 1790s and settled in the Deer Creek area. [2] Elijah bought a mill site on Deer Creek and built a brick house around 1805 using bricks made from clay dug on his plantation. The house was still standing in 1967 and was in the Standsbury family until 1900.[3]
The family appears on the 1800 U.S. Census with a family of 9 children under sixteen, 8 boys & 1 girl, plus 1 girl over 16. There were also 5 enslaved persons living in the household. There is no sign of the family in the 1810 census, but there is an Elijah Stansbury on the 1820 census living again in Baltimore County. In this household there were a boy & a girl under 10; between 10 and 15 there were 2 girls & 1 boy; between 16 and 25 there were 3 boys and 1 girl; between 26 to 44 there was a boy & a girl. Both parents are listed as over 45. Eliljah was living in Baltimore County with his younger children when he died in 1837. Elijah was married twice to two of the daughters of David Gorsuch and Elizabeth Hanson. His first wife was Elizabeth Gorsuch who was deceased before 5 MAY 1784 and the mother of one child:

Elijah died on his farm in Baltimore County 21 AUG 1837. He did not leave a will.[5]
