Biography

William Stansbury, Jr. was christened April 4, 1746, at the St Paul Protestant Episcopal Church, in Baltimore Maryland, a son of William Stansbury, Sr. and his wife, Elizabeth. [1] William married Belinda Cole, born 1750, a daughter of Abraham Cole and Rebecca Berry. William and Belinda became the parents of eleven children: Abraham, Elijah, Micajah, William, Sarah, Ruth, Charity, Elizabeth, Ann, Belinda and Daniel. William died July 15, 1825, and is buried in the cemetery of the historic Taylors Chapel, in Baltimore, Maryland. There are photographs of his headstone on his Find A Grave memorial. [2]

William Stansbury made his Will on May 10, 1825, in Baltimore county, Maryland. It was filed August 13, 1825, in Baltimore. The Will mentions that wife Belinda to get part of my brother Jacob's estate also my place called "Mount Pleasant". Children named were: Abraham, Micajah, Elizabeth, Sarah, Ann, Ruth, Charity, Daniel, Elijah, and the four children of my deceased son William, the five children of my son Elijah to get land in western country. Executor was his brother John E. Stansbury. witnesses: Joseph 1. Clark, William C. Alderson, and Joseph Sevestry. [3]

As per "History of Stark County, Ohio": William was one of the earliest settlers of Baltimore, Maryland and was a soldier of the war of the Revolution. He raised a family of four sons: Abraham, William, Jacob and Elijah. The family trace their ancestry to England.
