Mary Stapleton[1][2][3]

Birth and Parents

Her parents were John Stapleton [1][2] 4,5,6 and Margaret Stapleton, who was born about 1402 and died about 1455 [2][3]

Mary Stapleton was daughter and co-heiress of [?] John Stapleton, by Margaret, daughter of John Stapleton, Esq. [4]

Mary Stapleton and her sister Christian (or Christine) Stapleton were daughters of Margaret Stapleton by an unknown husband (possibly John Stapleton.) Margaret Stapleton in turn was one of three children of Margaret Deviock and her husband John Stapleton: Leonard, Margaret, and Elizabeth. [5]

1454 Marriage

About 1454, Mary Stapleton married Robert Montfort, Esq., son of Sir Baldwin Montfort and Joan Vernon [6]

Robert Montfort, Esq. was born about 1433 and died about 1477.[6]

Robert Montfort, Esq, a younger son, was styled "the younger". He was of Church Bickenhall, Warwickshire. [4]

Mary Stapleton married Robert Montfort, Esq., of Church Bickenhall, Warwickshire. [5]

1455 Presented to Free Chapel

In 1455 Mary, her husband Robert Montfort, and her fellow Stapleton co-heirs presented to the Free Chapel of St. John the Baptist at Stapleton, Shropshire. [4]

Death

Mary Stapleton died before 1470, when she is referred to as the late wife of Robert Montfort. [4]

1470 Plea for Partition

In 1470 Robert Montfort and other Stapleton co-heirs were summoned at the suit of Thomas Horde and Joyce his wife in a plea that a partition be made of the manors of Stapleton, Armegrove, and Folhampton, Shropshire, formerly belonging to John Stapleton, Esq, grandfather of Mary, late wife of Robert Montfort. Mary and Robert had one daughter.

If the marriage date is correct, the birth date is too early. She would not have waited until age 32 to get married, or marry a man 10-15 years younger than her.
