There is a great deal of confusion regarding Katherine Starke.

The record is clear that someone named Katherine Stark/e/s married a George Allen, son of Richard Allen (the Moneyer of the Tower of London). However, Katherine and George both remained in England and never came to the new world.

For details, see Questioning The Katherine Starkes connection by Leslie Ann Ballou.

This profile may represent a different Katherine Starkes, or may simply be an unsourced/inaccurate import from Ancestry.

We would request anyone with further knowledge and/or sourcing to contribute to this profile.

Research Notes

This profile was apparently supposed to be for "Katherine Starkes," the supposed name of George Allen's first wife,[6][7] since a George Allen married a Katherine Slarkes at All Hallows, Honey Lane, London, England on 5 Nov 1624.[8] .

As supplied by Melissa McLaughlin

From profile manager of https://www.geni.com/people/Katherine-Collins/6000000012850066274 Katherine Starkes who married the George Allen that was the son of Richard Allen of the Tower of London, who was still residing in London, England as late as 1640, when he was mentioned in his brother, Henry's, will. This George Allen is also believed to be the same George Allen who died at St. Michael Queenhithe, London on 26 March 1664.

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~jacmac/allen.htm I have transcribed the will of Henry Allen which was written in April of 1640. He mentions his brother George, sister Susan Willmott, sister Joane Usher, cousin Joseph Usher (should be nephew), brother John, and wife Susan.

Thanks to the The Records of London's Livery Companies Online => http://www.londonroll.org/ I was able to find some tidbits that help confirm the fact that George Allen the clothmaker was a totally different George than the one who immigrated to Mass.

1. Henricus Allen - London - New apprentice, son of Rici - Monnyer - Turri London, London. Jozeph Ussher - Master Co Clothworker. Start Date: 25/07/1610 Apprentice Bond Length: 10 years.

2. Georgius Allen - London - New apprentice, Son of Rici Allen Monnyer - Turrim London, London. Jozeph Ussher - Master Co Clothworker. Start Date: 30/09/1613 Apprentice Bond Length: 9 years.

3. Georg Allen - New freeman Co Clothworker, Jozeph Usher - Master Co Clothworker, 1620.

4. George Allen the Elder Sheeremaker - Queenehithe Master Co Clothworker, William Johnson - London - New apprentice - Start Date: 11/02/1658.

The age of apprenticeship was usually 14-21. So this would give George Allen, clothworker a birth date of about 1598, which would make him about 26 when he married Katherine Slarks. Since George Allen the clothworker from Queenhithe, London was busy still being a clothworker in 1658, he could not have been the George Allen who traveled to America with Rev John Hull since he died in the year 1648.

Any sources related to immigration need to be removed. Evidence suggests this couple stayed in England.

The date of death on this record is the same date of death being used for Katherine d. Sandwich. and should be removed absent source for this Katherine's death. George Allen, son of Richard, needs to be added. See marriage record attached.

Any sources or evidence connecting this Katherine Stark/e/s with Ralph Allen-2292 of Thurcaster, England and later of Sandwich, Massachusetts would be greatly welcomed, as it would shed light on a great mystery in the Allen lineage.

There is a marriage record for Katherine Stark/e/s and George Allen, son of Richard Allen (the Moneyer of the Tower of London). However, that Katherine and George both remained in England and never came to the new world.

This Katherine Stark/e/s is most assuredly not the wife of George Allen of Sandwich, Massachusetts.

Husband "John" as seen here is also dubious; see article by Leslie Ann Ballou in the Notes section on the left.

In an effort to preclude perpetuating what is already a tangled web, I am removing John Allen as husband; and Ralph and Joshua Allen as sons; especially given that Joshua was born in the New World, and that this Katherine never came to the New World.

Starkes-1 and Starkes-10 appear to represent the same person because: Need managers to consider. A note I was approached by the church members in Massechusette saying that they do not believe she married an Allen but would be interested if proof existed that he is wrong. Just a thought for cponsideration

I am removing some of the children listed here - the known children of George Allen: Rose, Joshua, and Matthew.

Research has shown, almost beyond any doubt, that George Allen "the immigrant" did not marry Katherine Starkes.
