Third daughter of Olive and George Starkey, she was born
on 4th January 1906. Because of the move to East London,
she went to High School in Port Elizabeth, the Collegiate
Girls School. Another gifted embroiderer and artist, she
was also a deep thinker and questioned life. She married
Hector Dallaway Deary, also from 1820 Settler stock, and they
settled in East London where they had six children, Maurice,
Donald, Joy, Eve, Bruce and Graham. They had a successful
and happy life, but in 1949 moved to live in Cape Town until
their passing in 1978 and 1990 respectively.
