Note

ROBERT STAYTON
The parentage of Robert is unknown and I am afraid shall remain so. There has been some speculation on his ancestry but in this section will be devoted to known facts much of which is based on research by Mrs. Robert (Mary McGriff).
Robert Stayton was born in about 1785 in Delaware.
According to an article by Mary McGriff, information was found in an old family Bible found in Delaware. Robert’s was first married to Mary Poynter on September 11, the day of our Lord 1808. in 1810,they are found in Mispellion Hdd, Kent County, Delaware. Mary passed away August 17. 1818. She is the mother of his first three children.
(Kent County has a river named Mispillion and one town named Staytonville. The town is located on the Mispillion river CSClark)
It wasn’t long until Robert remarried. His second wife was Elizabeth Holloway. They were residing in Duck Creek Hd in 1820. By 1830, they had moved to Ohio where they are found on the Fayette County, Ohio Census. They lived here for 7 years. It is believed Elizabeth who passed away in 1828 died there.
Robert next moved to White County, Indiana where he rented a farm. From there he moved to Tippecanoe County where he stayed for one year. He made one more move to Fulton County, Indiana and that is where is resided until he passed away. The 1840 Census of Henry Township, Fulton County, Indiana list a John N. Stayton and Robert Stayton Families According to Mary McGriff, they were brothers.
