A younger sister to Betty (Stead) Elliot, Jane was also born in Wakefield and christened in East Ardsley but on May 5, 1844 to William and Nancy (Lumb) Stead. Unlike Betty who did not seem to be employed at any time, the 1861 census lists Jane as a woolen weaver of East Ardsley. Jonathon Gomersall (1841-1914) married Jane in West Ardsley , September or November 2, 1863.
