In the 1841 Census, he is shown living with his brother-in-law, Thomas Christian, in Stanwix; occupation is calico printer. In the 1851 Census, he is still unmarried, a calico printer, but living with his partner, Hugh McAlpin and his half-brother, Nathan Stead McAlpin, at 93 Printworks Road, Cummersdale.
