Marcellus Stearns is Notable.

Marcellus Lovejoy Stearns was an American politician who served as the 11th Governor of Florida from 1874 to 1877 during the Reconstruction Era.

Marcellus Stearns was elected Lt Governor in 1873 and became Governor upon the death of Ossian B. Hart. Prior to being governor he was posted to Quincy, Florida where he remained after discharge. After completing his term he was appointed U.S. Commissioner in Hot Springs, Arkansas. In 1880 he retired and settled in Palatine Bridge, New York. It would be 90 years until the next Republican would be elected Governor of Florida.

Governor Stearns married Ellen Austin Walker, dau. of Rev. Horace D. Walker, of Bridgewater, Mass., Dec. 12, 1878.^[1]
