Biography
Reuben Stearns was born in Massachusetts.
It is quite certain that Reuben Stearns was born in Massachusetts, likely in the Worcester County area.
Reuben Stearns married Mehitable Dix, daughter of Benjamin and Mehitable (Sanderson) Dix on 7 April 1777 at Sturbridge, Worcester, Massachusetts.[1] It is not known if she and Ruben had children. Mehitable died on 6 November 1778 at Sturbridge not long after her marriage to Reuben.
Reuben was Mehitable's second husband. She was married to 1) Seth Hamant, son of Timothy and Hepzibah (Clark) Hamant. Mehitable was Seth's second wife. His first wife was Zilla Clark, daughter of Hinsdale and Anna (Partridge) Clark. Seth and Zilla had four children. All of these families resided in the Worcester County area.
Mehitable and Seth Hamant had two children born at Sturbridge:
Seth Haman died on 28 February 1771. Mehitable married Reuben Stearns six years later.
There are several records for a Private Reuben Stearns from the Worcester County area, who served with the Patriots from 1777 to 1778. There is not certainty that his is the same Reuben Stearns, however, as there is no identifying information other than his service records.
