John Stedman was baptized June 1, 1735, in Roxbury, Suffolk county, Massachusetts, a son of Joseph Stedman and Mary Cory. John was a soldier during the Revolutionary War and served in the Third Regiment of Massachusetts, in the company of Captain Joseph Williams, under the command of Colonel John Greaton. John gave the ultimate sacrifice to his company, and lost his life in service on August 18, 1777. [1]
John Steman is honored for his military service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A207123. He died in service. DAR records indicate that his wife's name was Sarah Mills. Application for membership in the Society has been made by the descendants of his son William Steman, who married Synthia Garnet[2]
