Biography

Joseph Stedman was born July 2, 1710, in Sullfok, Massachusetts, a son of Thomas Stedman and Mary (Trowbridge) Stedman. [1] Note: Some records give Norfolk county as his place of birth, however Norfolk County, Massachusetts was created on March 26, 1793.

On July 15, 1734, in Suffolk county, Massachusetts, Joseph married Mary Corey. [2] Children of Joseph and Mary include:

  • John Stedman, baptized June 1, 1735, in Roxbury, Suffolk, Massachusetts, died August 18, 177, in service during the American Revolutionary War, married Sarah Mills [3]
  • Josiah Stedman, baptized November 21, 1736, in Roxbury, presumably died young
  • Abijah Stedman, baptized December 11, 1737, in Roxbury
  • Josiah Steman (second of this name in this family) baptized September 28, 1740, in Roxbury
  • Benjamin Stedman, baptized May 16, 1742, in Roxbury
  • Ebenezer Stedman, born September 17, 1744, baptized September 23, 1744, in Roxbury, died March 27, 1813, in Newton, Middlesex county, married Eunice Morse [4]
  • Joseph Stedman, Jr. baptized February 2, 1746, in Roxbury
  • Mary Stedman, baptized March 13, 1748, in Roxbury
  • Lucy Stedman, baptized October 15, 1749, in Roxbury
  • David Stedman, baptized April 12, 1752, in Roxbury, died October 11, 1805, in Chester, Windsor, Vermont
  • Lucy Stedman, born November 25, 1758, died February 15, 1844, in Dedham, Norfolk county, Massachusetts, married Aaron Fisher, on September 9, 1786, in Weston, Massachusetts [5]

Joseph Stedman, Sr. died January 28, 1776, at the age of 66 years and is buried in the Farmers Burial Ground, in Weston, Middlesex county, Massachusetts. [6]
