Biography

Martha was born "3 (4) 1646" (third day of the fourth month of 1646, translating to about 3 June 1646), daughter of John Stedman and his wife Alice at Cambridge, MA.[1]

She married at Cambridge on Dec. 4, 1665, Joseph Cooke Jr., son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Haynes) Cooke who was born at Cambridge on Dec. 27, 1643.

Children

John born Jan. 25, 1667-8; died June 3, 1684.

Elizabeth born Feb. 11, 1669-70; died Feb. 2, 1687-8.

Joseph born Sept. 16, 1671; died May 28, 1739 aged 67; married Eunice Sprague. She died May 9, 1718, aged 34 years 1 month, 19 days.

Alice born ___; married first Rev. John Whiting of Lancaster about 1693; he was killed by the Indians in Sept. 1697; she married second Rev. Timothy Stevens of Glastonbury, CT in 1701.

Haynes born Feb. 1, 1677-8; resided in Woburn and Concord. [2]

i. [Mr.] Joseph Cooke, married Martha Stedman. They had three sons, John, Jacob, and Haynes, and two daughters, Elizabeth, and Alice (wife of Rev. John Whiting and Rev. Timothy Stevens). Joseph Cooke died about Feb. 1690/1.
