Wardell, son of Gilbert Steel & Ann Wardell, was born on 19 September 1801 and baptised on 25 October 1801 in Lamesley, Durham, England.^[1] 1 Nov 1801 Wardell Steel, of Eighton Banks, born 19 Sep 1801, 8th child, son of Gilbert Steel (sinker, native of Gateshead) by his wife Ann Wardell (native of Urpeth) ^[2]

Wardle married Mary Ramsey on 25 May 1828 in Houghton le Spring, Durham, England.^[3]

In the 1841 census Wardel (age 35) was in Biddick, North, Washington, Durham, England.^[4]

In the 1851 census Wardle (age 50), Colliery Overman, was the married head of household in Gurney Villas, Coundon Grange, Durham, England.^[5]

In the 1861 census Wardle (age 59), ...Iron Stone Mines, was the married head of household in Ormesby, North Yorkshire, England.^[6]
