Title: German Coast Families, European Origins and Settlement in Colonial Louisiana

Author: Albert J. Robichaux, Jr. Publication: Hebert Publications 1997 Library of Congress Catalog Card # 96-78542 Page: pg 216 Text: "The Jacob family of the German Coast was not among the 1720-1721 immigrants. Instead the family arrived on September 8, 1753 aboard LE CAMELEON with a group of Alsatians. An exhaustive search was conducted of the area around Schillersdorf in an effort to locate the marriage of Christian JACOB and Marguerite MEEL. In the town of Kirrwiller, in the present-day Department of Bas Rhin, on September 25, 17832, Christian JACOB, son of Hans Michel JACOB, citizen and tailor of Kirrwiller, married Maria MEEL(IN), daughter of Hans MEEL(IN) of Kirrwiller.

There was a source found on Ancestry.com with a record from Germany, Lutheran Baptisms, Marriages, and Burials, 1500-1971. In looking at it more closely, it gives a year for Marguerite's baptism as 1651, which is clearly incorrect. Although the parents names in the record match Hans and Catherine Mehl, this was not the same family unit. I deleted the source from this profile, as well as Marguerite Mehl-27 and Hans Mehl-28.
Not sure what this means but I've frequently seen (IN) added to a woman's surname in parens. Does it signify a daughter and does it then become how her name is spelled? There are several instances of this in Robichaux's book on the Germans who settled the Louisiana German Coast settlers-always the "IN" is in parens.

Based on the sources added to Stein-712, it appears that Catherine's LNAB was STEININ, and she never lived in Louisiana. The only records cited are secondary -- death records for her and her husband which were cited on a personal tree site. Are the cited records in France available online? If there is agreement that STEININ is the correct LNAB, I'll be happy to facilitate getting the name corrected and completing the merge, but then Louisiana Families will be removed as a project manager.
Hi, I ran across this old unmerged match with Steiner-331 and was wondering if any progress has been made on it? Are there any sources at all for her marriage to Hans Jacob Mehl? Is there anything at all for Hans? Thanks!
Just curious, has any progress been made on this unmerged match with Stein-712? Are there any sources at all for her marriage to Hans Jacob Mehl? For that matter, are there any sources at all for Hans?
Stein-712 and Steiner-331 are not ready to be merged because: I would like to check on some facts such as birth, death places and which surname is correct
Stein-712 and Steiner-331 appear to represent the same person because: slight variation in surname spelling; linked to same spouse
