Catherine Steininger was born on January 10, 1717, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, her father, Johan, was 20, and her mother, Anna, was 17. She married Arnholtz "Arnold" Scheretz in 1740 in her hometown. They had six children in 15 years. She died on June 5, 1796, in Manheim, Pennsylvania, having lived a long life of 79 years.
