Biography

Gladys was the first daughter of Henry Stent and Annie Fletcher.

She belonged to the Takaka Athletics and Cycling Club. In 1907, Gladys won the ladies one-third mile cycling race. She also had a long association with the Takaka shows.

Gladys married in 1912 to Allen Hitchcock, son of George Hitchcock and Sarah Bridger. She had 2 daughters in her marriage to Allen, Grace in 1914 and Beryl in 1927.

Gladys died in 1981 age 88 and is buried at East Takaka Cemetery.[1]
