Biography
Eugene married twice, first to Mary M. Ainsworth and they had four children: Chavela M.; Malcolm H.; Milton A.; and Charles E.
His second wife was Pearl "Jackie" Floyd, and they had two daughters: Michaela Rose and Melanie Ross.
After retirement, he graduated from Chico State University in Chico, California with a degree in History. His hobbies included Genealogy and he gathered and researched much information about his 5th great grandfathers, Jost Hite and Peter Stephens, both the first settlers making their homes in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in the year 1732.
His Ross and Hickman ancestors from So. Carolina and Mississippi migrated to the Indian Territory (Okla.) soon after the Civil War. Their ancestors today are numerous throughout the United States, with many living in the states of California, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
Eugene's great-grandfather, Samuel Brooken Stephens was elected as the first Sheriff of Sebastian Co., Ark. when that county was formed in 1852. Samuel B. Stephens, with friends from the Fort Smith area, made a cattle drive to California in 1854, following the Cherokee Trail through what is now Denver, Colorado and on north and west passing through Fort Bridger, Wyoming on their route west.
