CASUALTIES. YOUNG- MAN DROWNED.
Roy Merton Stephens, a single man, 27, who lived with his parents at Burrumbeet, Cheltenham-street, Croydon, was drowned whilst working at Elliott Bros. chemical works, Balmain yesterday afternoon.
Deceased who was employed as a labourer, was reaching from one punt to another at a spot near Iron Cove Bridge, Parramatta River, when he overbalanced and fell into the water.
Some fellow workers were coming to his assistance, but he assured them that he was all right and could swim.
However, he immediately sank, and when his body was recovered by a workman named Frank Griffin the young follow was dead.

The Acting City Coroner, Mr. A. Gates, conducted a magisterial Inquiry yesterday into the death of Roy Merton Stephens, 27 years of age, single, who was drowned In the harbour off Elliott Bros. Ltd., chemical works, Balmain, on February 1.
A verdict of accidental death was returned
