Note

Note [2]

After three years and nine months of voluntary service and an honourable discharge following the war's conclusion, Russell was denied the award of service medals, as to qualify for the award of the Australia Service Medal required a member of the voluntary Defence Corps to have had three years part-time duty prior to the 2nd September, 1945, and he only had 2 years 10 months 25 days. Russell's service of 3 years and 9 months was not considered worthy of recognition because ten months of it fell after the 2nd September 1945.
