Catherine Stephens was born on September 18, 1794 in Leadwell, County Essex, daughter of Edward Stephens (1768–1827).[1]

Singing Career

In 1807, having shown, like her elder sisters, some musical ability, she was placed under Gesualdo Lanza, with whom she remained five years. Under his care she sang in Bath, Bristol, Southampton, Ramsgate, Margate and other places, appearing early in 1812 in subordinate parts at the Pantheon as member of an Italian opera company, headed by Teresa Bertinotti.

At the close, in 1812, of her engagement with Lanza, her father placed her under Thomas Welsh, as whose pupil she sang anonymously on 17 and 19 November in Manchester.

She sang concerts with John Duruset in Edinburgh in 1814 and in Dublin in July 1821 and again in 1825.

Catherine was said to be the Aunt to Charles Edward Stephens in his biography , there is a baptism record that matches for the same parents for both Catherine and her brother: Catherine, daughter of Edward Stephens & Esther Stephens, was baptised on 11 January 1792 in St George, Hanover Square, London, Westminster, England, https://www.ancestry.co.uk/discoveryui-content/view/785000:61865 This is earlier than the date in the Dictionary of National Biography, but of course this could be wrong as it's unknown where this was sourced from.
