Peter Stephens was the son of Joseph Stephens SR and Rhoda Cole. He was born in 1791 in Wythe, Virginia and March 13, 1856 in Cooper County, MO. He married Elizabeth Betsy Arbuckle on October 17, 1810 in Wayne County, Kentucky. Elizabeth was born in 1796 in Kentucky and died on September 7, 1859 in Cooper County, MO. They had seven children. Alpha Ann Stephens1811-1878, Louisa Stephens 1812-1832, Joanna Stephens 1816-1890,Julia Stephens 1818-1832, John Arbuckle Stephens 1820-1821, Mary Ann Stephens 1823-1876 and Joseph Lawrence Stephens 1827-1906
