Note: "To the Honorable the Judges of the Orphans Court of Berks County (PA)
The Petition of Jesse Griffith Father of David Griffith, Susanna Griffith and Jesse Griffith, Great Grand Children of David Garret decd
Humbly Sheweth
That David Griffith, Sussanna Griffith and Jesse Griffith are Minors under the age of fourteen years, and have no guardian to take Care of their Estate That a Certain Sum of Money is due to them from the Estate of their great grand Father David Garret decd hee therefore pray your honor to appoint same person Guardian for said minor Children for the persons aforesd & he will pray etc. August 4th 1802 Jesse Griffith"
In David Gerrad's estate settlement ca 1801, Daniel, Jesse, and Susannah Griffith each receive their dead mother's portion of her grandfather's estate which is L2.9.5 1/2 to each child. This and the above petition indicate that Eleanor Stephen Griffith and her mother Mary Garred Stephen were both dead by this date and that the inheritence from David Garred would now go to his great grandchildren and be administered by their widowed father, Jesse Griffith.
Not know at this point whether Jesse Griffith was Eleanor's cousin, the son of William and Margaret (Gerrad) Griffith who went to the Greenbrier area.

Though no marriage records have yet been found, Jonathon Stephens is identified as the husband of Mary Garred in her father's Berks Co, PA estate records. In Robeson Meeting Quaker records listing her children, she is listed as Margaret Gerrad. Jonathon Stephens is listed on the Cumru tax lists from 1753 to 1760 along with the other married men, indicating the couple was married prior to 1752.
In addition to farming, Jonathon Stephens is identified as a weaver. In the spring of 1761, the Stephens move to Robeson Twp, possibly to be closer to Gerrads. Mary’s father David died in November that year and having the Stephens nearby was no doubt a great help to the widowed Margaret Gerrad who still had several young children still at home. Jonathon Stephens appears on the tax lists of Robeson Twp until 1793, presumably dying soon after. Samuel – also a weaver, David, and Silas Stephens – identified as a carpenter-- appear on Robeson Twp tax lists into the early 1800s. These are probably sons of Jonathon and Mary Gerrad Stephens.
Jonathan Stephens and wife Mary requested to be received into Exeter MM membership with their children: Samuel, David, Oliver, Silas, Robert, Lydia, and Esther on 4/26/1775. Son Samuel Stephens requested a certificate to Warrington Monthly Meeting on 12/27/1780 which was produced and signed on 1/31/1781.
If Mary really died in 1788, then the Margaret mentioned in Jonathon's will in 1793 must have been a second wife. The wording in his will kinda sounds like she was a second wife: "I give and bequeath unto my Wife Margerat, all the Household Furniture that was hers before, or that She brought unto me after our intermarriage, and also 12 Pounds current Money of Pennsylvania to be paid unto her yearly and every Year during her natural Life our of my Plantation aforesaid....but if it shall so happen here after my decease that my said Wife Margerat should again Marry, that then and thereafter the Yearly payments to be paid her...shall be no more than six pounds a year."
There is room for question in that the notes on her are listed as Margaret Gerrad (indicating that he was dead) m/ 1752 b 1/8/1732 d 10/22/1788 buried at Robeson Meeting Place. m/ at same. The notes are above (as is the case throughout the records) and says Mary with an arrow point down to Margaret dau of David and Margaret

In the Exeter Meeting records, there is a list of the births and children of Jonathan STEPHEN and Eleanor (sic-probably means Mary.) It doesn't show her maiden name, but I presume she is David's daughter:

These are listed under 'Members of Pottstown Meeting'.
