Biography

John Jones Stephens was born on 20 Oct 1838 in Perry County, Pennsylvania, United States, son of Robert Garrett Stephens (1804–1881) and Martha Monore (Jones) Stephens (~1806–1873).

His siblings were:

John died on 8 Aug 1920 in White Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, United States, aged 81.[1] He was buried in Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum, Indiana, Pennsylvania.

John married Anna (Trimble) Stephens (born on 4 Apr 1843 in White Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania; daughter of Thomas Trimble and Mary (Anderson) Trimble). Their known daughter was Annie Jane (Stephens) Kanarr (1875–1950).

Obituary

John J. Stephens, aged nearly 81 years, died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. S. T. Kanarr, of White township, Sunday morning, with general debility, incident to age. He was born in Perry county, Pa., October 20, 1938, and came to this county in the early fifties, and located on what was known as the Stephens farm in White township. He devoted his entire life to farming and lived the greater part of the time on the farm adjoining the one on which he died. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian church of Indiana. He leaves one daughter, Mrs. S. T. Kinarr, of White township; one brother, Samuel Stephens, of Parkwood, and a sisters, Mrs. Hulda Ruffner, of Greensburg. Funeral services were held at the Kinarr hame on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock by Rev. J. A. Lawrence, of town, and burial was made in Oakland cemetery.
