Biography

Herman J Stephens was born on 30 May 1901 in Canterbury, Windham, Connecticut, United States, son of Herman H Stephens (1866 - 1939) and Abigail (Scott) Stephens (1861 - 1949).

His siblings were:

  1. Jennie (Stephens) Brown (1893 - 1959)
  2. William Stephens (1896 - 1984)

Herman married Constance Villano (1904 - 1938) on 26 Aug 1924 in Manhattan, New York. Their children were:

  1. Herman Frederick Stephens (1925 - 1965)
  2. Ronald Vincent Stephens (1929 - 2010).
  3. Frank Carlton Stephens, 1926–2008

After Constance's death, he was not involved in the upbringing of his children. The boys lived with their uncle William Stephens, and the girls lived with Antonia (Pergola) Villano (1886-1972), Connie's mother.

He struggled with alcoholism throughout his life. On Dec 6, 1952, he was arrested for drunken driving. [1]

Herman died on 18 Jun 1974 in Canterbury, Connecticut aged 73, in New Smith Cemetery, Canterbury, CT. [2]
