George was born in Monroe County, Tennessee with many extended family in the area. After the death of his father, he along with his mother, siblings, and many extended family moved down to Bartow, Georgia. It was there that he married and started his family. His first being twin girls. Twin genetics seem to run strong within the Stephens family. George's cousin had two sets of twins. It's still yet to be discovered if twin genetics are being passed through the Stephens paternal line or from one of the maternal lines.
By 1900 he and his family had moved west to Victoria County, Texas where he remained the rest of his life.
George had early stages of demetia/alzheimers and would go for long walks in the evening. He disappeared one evening and was never seen again. An extensive search was conducted in the surrounding areas including the possibility of having fallen into the well or having been a victim to foul play. He was never found and it was unknown if he got lost or injured and couldn't make his way home or was the object of foul play. First hand information from my grandmother who was George's granddaughter said there was a horrible stench at the house for weeks and that the police suspected foul play due to the fact that one son had a reputation for an extremely bad temper. They searched the property high and low even tearing up the floorboards of the house but they did not find him. So it is a mystery.
