Biography

William M. Stephenson (son of Jonathan Stephenson and Betsy Timberlake) was born September 1, 1831 in Boone County, Kentucky and died Nov. 26, 1902 in Illinois. He married Catherine Ryan on October 31, 1858 in Jersey County, Illinois. They lived at Virden, Illinois. He enlisted in the 122nd Illinois Volunteer Infantry, Company G, on September 4, 1862 at Carlinville, Illinois. He served as a private in the Civil War and was mustered out on July 15, 1865 at Mobile, Alabama. Catherine died April 2, 1882 in Illinois. They are buried in Maple Lawn Cemetery, Fidelity, Jersey County, Illinois.
