Biography

Birth

William Stetson was born 26 Jun 1700 at Scituate, Massachusetts [1] He was the 4th child and son of Robert Stetson and Mary (Collamore) Stetson[2][1]

Marriage

Married Hannah Lapham, 21 November 1723, in Scituate. [3][4],

  2. (ii) Caleb Stetson - born 31 May 1726, [8]; baptized 2 June 1728, died 5 December 1750, unmarried and no children, in his 25th year, buried in South Parish/Old Cemetery, Norwell, Massachusetts. [11][12]
  3. (iii) William Stetson - baptized 28 Sep 1738, [B] in private.[6]; m. Mary Lincoln 19 Jul 1764 Scituate. [9]

Death & Probate

"He died in 1761, and is supposed to have been murdered, as his body was found in the North River, opposite his house, and he disappeared under circumstances of a very suspicious character. " -- John Barry. [7]

William Stetson of Scituate, yeoman, died intestate. Letters of Administration on his estate were issued 1 June 1761 to his son, William Stetson of Scituate, yeoman.[14] The warrant to divide his estate was issued 19 May 1764 and was made disbursement to widow Hannah, the representatives of Job, eldest son, William and Stephen Stetson. [15]
His inventory was taken on 9 June 1761 in Scituate.[16]
In 1764, his estate distribution was set out to his widow, Hannah Stetson, and the heirs of Job Stetson (eldest son), William Stetson and Stephen Stetson. [17]
In 1768, an account of his estate by William Stetson was recorded which included income from the estate, debts paid, funeral costs, and administration fees.[18]
