Biography

Mary Stetson died young.

Mary N. Stetson was the daughter of Charles Stetson and Emily (Roberts) Stetson, born (according to her death record) in Amherst, Massachusetts, in about 1841.^[1] She probably was named for her father's sister Mary Nancy Stetson (1821-1840), who had died the year before her birth.

Mary N. Stetson died in Shutesbury, Massachusetts, on 28 August 1844,^[2] recorded as age 3. Cause of her death was "Inflammation the bowels." ^[1]

Her parents gave the name Mary Nancy to another daughter born on 20 May 1844 (before the recorded date of this child's death).^[3] Birth records for these two girls have not been found; it's possible that there is an error in one of the dates, or perhaps the girl born in May 1844 was not formally named until after the death of her sister.
