Samuel Stetson died in July 1804 aged 36, at Boston.[1][A]. He and his wife are buried in the "Old Burying Place" in Watertown, Massachusetts. The inscription on their memorial stone reads:[4]

On July 19, 1805, Jonathan Stetson of Randolph, cordwainer, was appointed guardian for five children of Samuel Stetson who were under age 14, namely Catherine, Samuel, Irene, Hiram, and Mary. Amasa Stetson of Boston, merchant, gave bond for the guardianship [6].

Research Notes

  • Stetson Kindred Genealogical Index: 1-1-2-5-3-5.
  • Not sure where the title "Captain" comes from.
A. 'The Descendants of Cornet Robert Stetson gives the date of his death as 20 July 1805 and indicates that he died while the funeral of his wife was being held, but this year is wrong. The date is not possible because his estate was administered in July 1804.
