Biography

Elizabeth Stevens was born about 1809 to Samuel Stevens and Elizabeth (Unknown) and baptised on 1st April of that year in Arnesby, Leicestershire, England. ^[1]

Elizabeth married Elias Groocock on 3rd May 1831 in Arnesby. ^[2]

In 1841 they have three children, Richard, Henry and Elizabeth and are living in Arnesby Lodge, Arnesby, Leicestershire. ^[3]

By 1851, still in Arnesby, they have three more sons, William, Thomas and Elias. ^[4]

In 1861, there are only two sons, William (18, a cotton and worsted weaver) and Elias (10, a scholar) living with their parents, who are still living in Arnesby ^[5] and in fact they continue to do so for the next two censuses.

In 1871 they have a 5 month old baby grandson, Herbert (born Nottingham) staying with them ^[6] and in 1881, the couple are now in their early seventies and live together with no resident descendants. ^[7]
