Biography

Obediah was born in 1787. Obediah Stevens ... He passed away in 1852. , [1]

Found his 1812 War Record; he was listed as Sgt "Obediah Stephens", Col McFarland's Detachment, Indiana Militia.[2]

In his Estate records located in Calhoun County TX ( he died intestate and wife Mary asked for the estate to be settled) the name listed was Obediah Stevens. Previously he signed papers with Obh Stevens instead of using his whole name. He had folks who owed him at his death. Copies of these records are in the book, "The Stevens Tree" by Joe Clark, pub 1982. His Mary used an X for her signature. On her Gravestone is the name Obadiah but I changed my spelling due to the many proofs otherwise. I wanted to use both to aid folks in their research, hence my Obadiah/Obediah name on the original listing.
