Levi N. Bodley, section 8, Salem Township, was born in Plymouth, Richland Co., Ohio, in 1830, a son of William and Sally Bodley. His father died in Richland County, March 8, 1861, and his mother in Angola, March 2, 1879. Their family consisted of thirteen children; all but four of the children have lived in Steuben County, Ind. But three now live in the county. Father and sons politically were Republicans. In 1860 the father and four sons voted for Abraham Lincoln and four days after his inauguration the father died. Three of the sons served in the war of the Rebellion. Levi N. was a member of Company K, Twenty-ninth Indiana Infantry, from October, 1864, till the close of the war. Thomas, a younger brother, was Lieutenant of Company D, Seventy-fourth Indiana Infantry, and was killed at Chickamauga in September, 1863. Levi N. Bodley came to Steuben County, Ind., in the fall of 1851, and with the exception of two years in DeKalb County has since made this his home. He married Mary J. Butler, who came with her father, Jesse Butler, to Steuben County in 1838. They have six children – Jesse W., Guy C., Nora G. (wife of G. Elliott), Susan E., Fiemming W. and Isaac D. SALLY BODLEY, died 02 Mar 1879
At the residence of her son, J. C. Bodley in Angola, March 2, occurred the death of Mrs. Sally Bodley, aged 76 years. She was the mother of thirteen children, twelve of whom are living. Her son, Thomas, who enlisted early in the war of the Rebellion, was shot at Chickamauga. Mrs. Bodley was taken to Plymouth, Ohio, for burial.[2][3]

John and Nancy are buried at Block Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Susan M. (Bodley) Emerson, 07 Jan 1823 - 05 Jun 1899, on 07 Mar 1846 in Indiana, married John Emerson who died in 1893. Levi Newton Bodley, 14 Nov 1844 - 19 Jun 1919, on 21 Nov 1855, in Indiana, married Mary Jane (Butler) Bodley, 22 Mar 1835 - 14 Dec 1918, daughter of Jesse and Fanny (Stevens) Butler. They are all buried at Block Cemetery. Fleming Wilson Bodley Sr., 14 Nov 1844 - 15 May 1895, on 15 Sep 1874, in Indiana, married Olive C. (Carkhuff) Bodley, 1851 - 1927, daughter of William Carkhuff and Olive Cordelia (Orton) Carkhuff Patterson. Fleming and his wife, Olive C. are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. William Carkhuff is buried at Memorial Grove, Steuben County, Indiana. Olive Cordelia (Orton) Carkhuff Patterson is buried at Old Angola Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Thomas Bodley died Sep 1863. Killed in the Civil War at Chicamagua, a member of Co. D., 74th Indiana Infantry.[4][5]
