Biography

Jesse never married as far as can be proved. In the SC 1860 Census, Rossville, Chester County SC, he was living in the household of his brother Danl R Stevenson. Aged 57, his occupation was Master Carpenter.

The headstone inscription for his death year is incorrect and probably erected by a great nephew or niece. It should read 1867 not 1872. Located in the Estate Papers of Jesse R Stevenson found in Chester County SC is the 2nd Return of Charles H Ragsdale administrator. First entry is dated Jan 1869. >ref> image in possession of descendant of Danl R Stevenson made of the 2nd Inventory of Jesse R Stevenson dscd. C Walker.

Jesse was never listed as Head of Household in any of the Census I could locate. He is named in 1860 Census in household of brother Danl R Stevenson as Master Blacksmith. The 1860 Non Pop Ind Census for Danl R Stevenson is for a Blacksmith shop.
