Samuel Stevenson was born in Ireland.

Samuel Stevenson was born about 1789 and passed away in 1850.

Samuel came to New York from Ireland in 1817, he never settled in the United States but followed the same trail Sir Issac Brock used in the war between Canada and the United States. He settled in Brock Township, Ontario, Canada, Lot 2 Concession 2 on Durham 23 just after it was surveyed. There were only three white families in the area at the time. The other two families were of William Bagshaw and Philip St. John. They all settled around the same time.

During 1817 and 1818 about two hundred English and Irish families who emigrated by the way of New York City were encouraged by James Buchanan, the British Consul in New York, to come to Canada. He had been authorized to give them up to $10.00 per person in forwarding them to Canada so that they might be loyal to the Empire. Among those sent on from New York were William Smith, Mark MacManus, Samuel Stephenson, Thomas Morgan, Samuel and Richard Marshall, John Gutherie, William Bagshaw, Alex Cathcart, and Philip St. John. Stevenson-2594 and Stevenson-3924 appear to represent the same person because: Just getting to the e-mail you sent in October. I believe these are the same people - same wife Ann Doble

Stevenson-2594 had a family before marrying Ann Doble. His first known daughter was born around 1815 in Ireland, listed in his will and immigration papers. Thus, his birth year cannot be 1805. Better info for Samuel's is found under Stevenson-3924.

Stevenson-3924 and Stevenson-2594 do not represent the same person because: I don't think there is enough information to merge. There were likely a lot of Samuel Stevensons. The kids for each of these guys are different.
