Biography

Was a soldier in the Anglo Boer War for the British, decided to move to SA after the war. Was from Glasgow Lived in Turffontein and was a city councillor for Joburg as well as a race horse trainer/owner. He died the year he was running for mayor. (year uncertain) There was a tram line laid in his street for him - Tramway Street Was known as Honest John and has a Park and a Street in the Turffonteiin area named after him. - Daphne Lesser
