Biography

Flag of Derbyshire (adopted 2006)
Ellen (Stevenson) Chambers was born in Breaston, Derbyshire, England.

Ellen daughter of George and Ann Stevenson was christened at Breaston, Derbyshire, on 28 May 1775.[1]

Geographical Note and Social context: Breaston is a large village and civil parish in the Erewash district, about which the various gazetteers have little to say.
Breaston lies within the ancient hundred of Morleston and Litchurch and has been variously known as Breason, Braydeson, Braidstune, Bradeston, Breydison and Breston. The origin of its name is said to be Braegd's tun, i.e. Braegd's farm. It had a population of 379 in 1801.[2]

She married Benjamin Chambers in Nottingham on 1 November 1802.[3]

Ellen Chambers aged 68 was buried at Spondon, Derbyshire, on 5 September 1843.[4]
