Biography

Mary was the only legitimate daughter of James Stewart, illegitimate son of KIng James IV. James was the 1st Earl of Moray (1501 creation). Mary's mother was Lady Elizabeth Campbell, daughter of Colin Campbell, 3rd Earl of Argyll and Lady Jean Gordon.

James and Elizabeth were married in August 1529. They had one daughter, Lady Mary Stewart, who was married to John Stewart, Master of Buchan, from whom she got divorced on September 12, 1560. Mary Stewart died childless.

Mary had a half-sister, Elizabeth, and a half-brother, James, both of whom were illegitimate children of her father James and his mistress Marion Stewart.
