Biography

The 1851 Agricultural census lists William Stewart as having in Concession or Range (5), Lot or Part of Lot (5.8), Number of Acres of Land (80), Under Cultivation (20), Under Crops (2), Under Pasture (18), Under Wood or Wild (65), Bulls, Oxen or Steers (2), Milch Cows (3), Calves or Heifers (4), Horses of all ages (5), Sheep (5), Pigs (7), Butter - Lbs (250), Beef - Barrels or cwts (4), and Pork - Barrels or cwts (10). It appears he has more acres in use than he was alloted.

  • 1870 Nebraska census has William on a farm with his wife Mary, children Edith, M J, Frank, and John. It is near that of his brother David.

The 1880 census shows William age 60, enumerated in Columbus, Platt, Nebraska, with his wife Mary age 60, son John 21, and daughter Edith age 16.
