James was born in 1873 in Pennsylvania to John E. StewartSallie C. Mcswiney. He was a twin of Tillie Stewart. By 1880, the family was living in Medford, Reno, Kansas.[1]
He married Bertha "Bertie" Heigard. In 1900, they were living in Kapioma Township, Atchison, Kansas.[2]
James passed away in 1902. Burial was in the Effingham Cemetery in Effingham, Atchison, Kansas.[3]
