Caroline was born about 1825, probably in Georgia. She was the daughter of William Stewart and Sarah Cottle. She married David Gilson in 1842 In Upson County, Georgia.[1] By 1850, she had died and the children were left to live with Caroline's parents in Scott County, Mississippi.[2]
