Biography

Isabella was the daughter of Robert II, and Elizabeth Mure, although the exact date of her birth is uncertain.[1]

She married sometime after 23 September 1371 (the date of a papal dispensation, necessary as they were related in the 4th degree of consanguinity) James Douglas, earl of Douglas and Mar and lord of Liddesdale.[1] Richardson states there was alleged to be one child from this marriage, who died in infancy.[1] The Exchequer Rolls list no children from this marriage.[2] James Douglas had at least three natural children by unknown mistresses: William Douglas, Knt., of Drumlanrig; Archibald Douglas, of Cavers; and Eleanor Douglas (who married William Fraser, Knt., of Philorth).[1][3] Sir James Douglas, earl of Douglas and Mar, died at the Battle of Otterburn on 5 August 1388 and was buried at Melrose.[1]

Isabella married (second) before 1390 (the date on which they are mentioned jointly in a charter) John de Edmonstone, Knt., of Edmonstone, Midlothian.[1][2] There was one child from this marriage, David de Edmonstone, who was his father's eldest son and heir.[1][4]

Isabella, countess of Douglas, died in 1409/10.[1][3]

If anyone has a reliable source showing that Isabella married someone called Robert Maitland, please post it here or contact me privately. Otherwise he will be disconnected from this profile. Thanks,

#7 reference S171; S4 generates a database error as it doesn't refer to what it is. Can someone please expand on that?

Thanks for all your hard work!

Kind regards, Raewyn.

Digging through the history -
Source: S4 Title: hofundssonAnces.ged

So of no value.

Source: S171
Type: FHL Film
Text: The Peerage.com - http://www.thepeerage.com/p2607.htm

So that's a bit confused, but presumably was originally a Peerage.com page that has since been renumbered.

Stewart-14819 and Stewart-991 appear to represent the same person because: Clearly meant to represent the same person.

Stewart-14819 and Stewart-991 do not represent the same person because: Not my Isabel de Bruce, Stewart. Robert II Bruce, (1316/1390) was her father, not her husband. Euphemia Leslie de Ross, (1320/1387) was her mother. Her husband was Sir William Stewart, of Jedworth and Teviotdale,(1356/1420). Isabel was the mother of Sir John of Garlies, Stewart.

Stewart-14819 and Stewart-991 appear to represent the same person because: same name, same parents, same time frame, same location, do not know about any marriage to Robert Bruce, did marry Douglas and Edmonston
Looks like there has been an incorrect merge along the way, the daughter of Robert II Stewart was only married to James Douglas, 2nd Earl of Douglas, and Sir John Edmonstone.

Stewart-1347 and Stewart-991 do not represent the same person because: Too many inconsistencies - such as husbands and dates

Prefix = Lady ???, as her Father was: Robert II King of Scotland Stewart., Mother: Euphimia (de Ross) Stewart.

Isabel married Sir William Stewart abt. 1356. He was killed during the battle of Homildon Hill, Northumberland, England. Their son was Sir John Stewart; B--1383, Wigtownshire, Scotland, D--1420, Loiret Centre, France, at the Siege of Orleans.

Douglas-3603 and Stewart-991 do not represent the same person because: WOOPS - MENT TO MERGE WITH MUM, NOT DAUGHTER!
Stewart-2287 and Stewart-991 appear to represent the same person because: After removing incorrect parents of Stewart-2287 the merge should be good to go! Correction - the husbands are mixed up but that's step two.

This profile does not belong with parents, John and Isabel (MacDougall de Ergardia) Stewart. They had a daughter, Isabel but she is profile Isabel (Stewart) Murray. I am disconnecting this profile from the current parents and approving the merge with Stewart-991. Alls hould be fine after that.

Stewart-2287 and Stewart-991 do not represent the same person because: Parents, spouses, children, all conflict -- every single one. The only matches are birth and death dates. There are mistakes in at least one, maybe both, profiles, and it's unclear what the mistakes are.
