John (Stewart) Stuart IVth of Ardmaleish is a member of Clan Stuart of Bute.

Sir John Stuart (4th of Ardmaleish) (d. 31 March 1619) was the son of John Stewart (3rd of Ardmaleish) and his wife Mary Campbell.

He succeeded his father as Sheriff of Bute. He acquired Fuird and several other lands in Haddington through his wife. He was also known as Sir John Stuart; this family had adopted the French spelling of Stuart sometime during the reign of Mary, Queen of Scots.

He married Elizabeth Hepburn, daughter of Robert Hepburn (of Fuird). They had issu:

  1. 1. Sir James Stuart. (5th of Ardmaleish), 1st Bt. d. 1662

John died on 31 March 1619.

Stuart-741 and Stewart-15368 appear to represent the same person because: Possibly the son named James for Stuart-741 should be disconnected rather than merged. As the LNAB was probably /STEWART/ rather that /STUART/ the recommended order is to have Stewart-15368 as the survivor. The French spelling /STUART/ was adopted by Mary, Queen of Scot shortly before John was born and it is possible that it was adopted by this family before the birth of John - in which case the survivor should be Stuart-741.

N.B. some ancestors needed merging as well.
