    Research Notes

    Multiple people may be conflated in this profile, i.e. information about different people may be combined and confused.

    Apparently there are two different James Stewart's - ours, and a James P. Steward. A lot of research from the James P. Steward has been attached erroneously to our James Stewart. He did NOT make it to DeKalb County, Indiana. Every James Stewart from that county and state comes up with another wife, different children, etc. It may be that only his children made it there with their mother after the death of Mr. Stewart. Or some of them went to Ohio. And yes, the wife of James lived past 1845.

    The other James went by James P. Steward and came from Wayne Co, PA- on the eastern side. Ours looks to be located from the central area of Mifflin/Huntingdon/Cumberland and his family moved west from there. So there is missing data from 1820-1840

    Our James Stewart did die in 1845 (like everyone thought) but in Mifflin, Penn. He is listed in the Penn. Wills and Probate records:

    1. 1 in 1840 as Admin of his mother's estate.
    2. 2 his own estate of 1845
    3. 3 Orphans Court Records in Penn.
