Maud was born in 1884. She was the daughter of Henry Stewart and Deborah McDaniel. She had her son, Everett Raymond, out of wedlock. Family gossip suggests that his father, named as George Stewart on Raymond's birth certificate, is the George Stewart who married Maude's sister, Viola. There is no one who can prove or disprove this information. . . it's just the story passed down.
Maude married Harry Daniel VanMeter in 1907 in Mason County, West Virginia.[1] Among their children are:
Maude was the midwife for the family. She delivered many nephews, nieces, and grandchildren--including my father. In my first recollection of her she was larger than life. She was blind and walked with a cane but she stood strong as an oak tree. She regained her sight later on but lost her ability to walk.
When she became too aged to care for herself, Aunt Josephine cared for her.
Maude married Harry Van Meter on 12/25/1907 in Mason Co. Wv. Raymond`s Stewart's father is unknown.
