John Stewart was born on 17 September 1765 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. He was the son of John Stewart and his wife Janet Liddle.

He was baptised on 19 September 1765 Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland with his twin brother Peter Stewart.

It is not certain when John went to sea, a "Sea Captain" for part of his life [1] but he must have travelled from Glasgow to Whitehaven, possibly as a merchant, where he met his future wife'

He died in 1836, at the age of 71 in Westminster, London, England and was buried on the 17 September 1836 in the parish of St James, Westminster, London, England

Marriage

John Stewart was married to Eleanor Munkhouse on 23 April 1790, in the parish of St Bees, Whitehaven, Cumberland, England.

Children

John and Eleanor had five children in 10 years of their lives together;

  • 1. Robert Stewart (Stuart), Naval Mariner. b.1791 – d.1867.
  • 2. John Stewart (Stuart), Master Mariner. b.1796 – d.1860.
  • 3. William Stewart (Stuart), Mariner. b.1798 – d.1874.
  • 4. George Stewart (Stuart). b.1800 – d.1877.
  • 5. Claude Stewart (Stuart). b.1801– 1882.
