John Stewart was born about 1767 in York, York County (now Adams County) Pennsylvania, British Colonial America. He was the son of Robert Stewart and his wife Sarah Stewart (of Chester County, Pennsylvania, British Colonial America). [1]
Of six brothers who moved to Coitsville at the beginning of the 19th Century it was John Stewart who looked south of the Mahoning River for a wife.
He died on 16 November 1838 in Coitsville, Ohio, USA.

John Stewart was married to Agnes Struthers (the sister of John Struthers who was one of the first settlers of Poland Township).
