Biography

Sarah Sturt was born in 1848 in West Grinstead, Sussex, England to Thomas Sturt and Sarah (Constable) Sturt. Her birth was registered in Horsham, Sussex in the second quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Constable.[1]

Sarah Sturt, daughter of Thomas & Sarah, was christened in West Grinstead on 30 Apr 1848.[2]

In 1851 Sarah Sturt (age 3) lived in West Grinstead, Sussex with her father Thomas (30, Waggoner), mother Sarah (32), and three full siblings: James (7, Scholar), Thomas (5), and Henry (1), as well as half-brother Philip Constable (13, Agricultural Labourer).[3]

In 1871 Sarah Sturt (age 24, Housemaid) lived in Hove, Sussex in the household of her employer John Lane.[4]

Sarah Sturt (age 28, daughter of Thomas Sturt) married Henry Flint (age 32, son of Richard Flint) on 4 Dec 1875 in Nuthurst, Sussex.[5] The marriage was registered in Horsham in the last quarter of the year.[6]

Sarah and Henry had six children: Ellen Flint (1876-), Caroline Flint (1878-), Harry Flint (1881-), Ada Flint (1884-1884), Minnie Flint (1884-1884), and Richard Flint (1887-1950).

In 1881 Sarah Flint (age 33) lived in Nuthurst with her father-in-law Richard (64, Ag Lab), mother-in-law Caroline (60), husband Henry (36, Ag Lab), and three children: Ellen (4), Caroline (2), and Harry (0).[7]

In 1891 Sarah Flint (age 45) lived at Sedgwick Park in Nuthurst with her husband Henry (49, Agricultural Labourer) and three children: Caroline (12), Harry (10), and Richard (3), as well as mother-in-law Caroline Flint (75).[8]

In 1901 Sarah Flint (age 54) lived in Nuthurst with her husband Henry (57, Agricultural Labourer), daughter Caroline (22), and son Richard (13, Plough Boy on Farm).[9]
